MyInsights is a qualitative research app that can be used in qualitative research projects. With MyInsights participants can capture their experiences, opinions and habits in text, photos, videos and audio fragments in either ‘public’ or ‘private’ projects or topics. Moderators can interact with the participants via the app or web environment. Observers can ask questions to the moderator within the app or on the web environment.

For what kind of project can I use MyInsights?

MyInsights can be used for all kinds of qualitative projects. For example:

  • Mobile diaries
  • Consumer Connects
  • Shopalongs
  • In-home & product research
  • Mobile focus group
  • Single interviews
  • Research on location or on-the-go
  • Pre or post a focus group

Where can I use the app and web environment?

Both the mobile apps and web environment are available worldwide.

In what language can I set up a survey/project?

You can enter your survey in any language on the web environment. We support UTF-8 encoding, so the app has no problem with showing certain characters, for example from Chinese or Arabic.

In what languages is the app itself available?

The app itself is available in English, Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian Bokmål, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Thai, Traditional Chinese, Turkish and Vietnamese.

Can you help us with setting up a project?

We specialize in building and supporting software for market research. We don’t set up projects, but we are always happy to answer any questions you might have during project setup and/or execution.

Is the data secured?

Yes. All textual data is stored in a NoSQL document database. This is a schemaless object datastore providing robust, scalable storage for your application. All data - sent from the app or web environment - is sent over a secure connection (SSL). All data is encrypted at rest.

Do you comply with the GDRP?

Yes, we have general terms, privacy policy and a data processing policy in place to comply with the GDPR. We are also able to sign a customized data processing policy. All collected data belongs to the client and can be deleted any moment. You can also delete all data of a specific participant.\ Data is only temporarily stored in the platform. Finished projects will be deleted completely after 3 months. You can make a custom consent message available which participants have to accept before they can participate. In this message you can describe how the collected data is used.

I cannot sign in to the web environment.

Only researchers and observers can sign in to the web environment.

Can I use custom colors in the app?

Yes, there are different options to use custom colors in the app. You can either go for a branded app. This means that you get your own app in the App Store (iOS) and/or Play Store (Android), with its own name, description, colors, etc. Please contact us at info@mobilemarketresearch.com for the prices and more information about a branded app.

Also an option (no extra costs) is to change the upper and lower bar in the app. You can change these colors in the web environment. Go to: Settings on the left side of the screen (on the web environment)

  • Click on ‘App Branding’
  • Change the colors and web icon

When are you available for email support?

You can reach us by email (support@mobilemarketresearch.com). Please do note that we check our email quite regularly outside these hours and we try to respond asap when it concerns urgent questions.

Will the data be removed automatically?

Yes, finished/invoiced projects will be removed after 3 months. You can also manually remove your project earlier.

How do the app and web environment perform when a lot of data has been collected?

The server environment runs on the Google Cloud Platform. This platform automatically creates more servers when you are collecting more data. The database is a so-called distributed ‘NoSQL’ / key-value database, that performs very well with large quantities of data.

Can the app be used offline?

Yes, MyInsights can be used offline. Of course, you do need an internet connection to download the topics of MyInsights. But after that you can use the apps offline. When you’ve finished collecting data you will need an internet connection to make it available online.

Can I upload my own panel in the web environment?

Yes, it is possible to import a panel within the web environment. You can also import background information/segments of the panel members.

The participants did not receive the invitation sent from the web environment!

Sometimes, the invitation ends up in the spam box of the participants. It is also possible to create a mail export from within the web environment. This way, you can email participants using Mail Merge functionality using your own email application.

With regard to MyInsights, we highly recommend inviting participants to sign in to the app a few days before your project actually begins. You can determine that the topics are available on a certain start date and for example, only show a ‘welcome topic’ until that time. This way, you can make sure that everybody can sign in and start at the same day.

A participant cannot sign in to the app. What can I do?

When a participant cannot sign in, please ask what the participant sees on the screen of their device and possibly ask for a screenshot. Most of the login issues are caused by entering the wrong password. Participants can leave the password field empty to sign in with a link sent to their email address. Is there another problem while signing in, or does the participant keep having trouble signing in, please let us know.

The participants did not receive a push notification.

Push notifications to participants are sent for: Topics that appear on a future date New comment New messages When people say that they do not receive push messages, please check whether they:

  • Have turned on the notification center
  • Accept the push notifications of the app
  • Both things can be adjusted on their device (generic Settings screen)

Does the battery of the device run out quickly when you use the app?

No, the battery of the device does not run out sooner when you use the app. Our apps require little of the battery, when they are running in the background. In the background MyInsights does ‘nothing’. There are apps that keep track of your location and do network communication, which makes your battery run out quickly. We do not do this. The display of the device itself is what uses a lot of energy (brightness), but this is the same for every app. What you can do to keep your battery ok is:

  • reduce the brightness of your display
  • close apps that keep track of your location while running in the background
  • close apps that make use of an internet connection

Can I upload a logo within the app?

Yes, you can upload a photo in the settings of a project. This logo will be visible next to the survey name in the app.

Do you have a manual for the app?

No, we do not believe manuals should be necessary when you use an app. The app is very user friendly and works quite intuitively. The email invitation should contain enough information for participants to be able to install the app and sign in. You can make a welcome topic available to explain to the participants what is expected.

I think I have found a bug in the software, what can I do?

If you have found a bug in our software, please let us know as soon as possible via: support@mobilemarketresearch.com We do our best to solve bugs as soon as possible.

How do I know which version of the app I have installed?

Within the app, go to ‘About us’. Here, you will see which version you have installed.

How do I pay for the projects?

Invoices are generated on the first of every month (if any).

Can I pay by credit card?

Yes, it is possible to pay by credit card. We use Stripe.com for credit card payments.

How can participants download the app?

They can download the app via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. They can also download the app with a link, that you can send in an email from the web environment.

What are the most important functionalities?

In MyInsights participants can respond to topics with either text messages, photos and/or videos. Topics within the project can be ‘biased’ or ‘unbiased’. This means that participants can either see the posts of other participants right away, or they need to upload their own message before they can see what others have said. A project can be ‘private’ as a whole, or they can be ‘public’, in this case participants can also respond to each other.

I can see all topics at once, within the app. But I want some to appear at a later moment.

If you don’t want all the topics to be visible at once, you can change this within your project. Go to: Project —> Topics —> change the date on which a topic should be available

I see no/all topics in MyInsights (app).

On the web environment you can change the visibility of topics. You can adjust this per topic or on a project level, for example to make posts always visible, make posts private, make them visible after posting your own comment.

The easiest is to choose the most common setting on a project level and change the topics that deviate.

I cannot see the project of my colleagues in the web environment.

Only administrators can see all the projects on the web environment. Researchers can only see the projects that they are connected to (in which they are a researcher). To be able to see all projects, you need to ask the administrator to change your role.

Is it possible to access the data after the project is closed for respondents?

Yes, when the project is deactivated researchers will still be able to see the project in the app and web interface. The only thing to keep in mind, is that you should not delete the participants, because then their comments will also be deleted.

I uploaded a YouTube video, but I cannot see it in the app.

Then the URL probably isn’t right, the best thing to do is to copy paste the URL visible below the video next to / near ‘Share’.

I cannot open some of the videos

Some Android devices use video codecs that are not compatible with the default video player. You could try opening them using the Chrome browser or with VLC, see: http://www.videolan.org

I uploaded an instruction video for participants, but it does not become visible in the app.

This video is probably very big, it takes a while to download it to the app and you need a good (fast) WiFi connection to download these large videos. The best thing is to make these kinds of instruction videos available via YouTube. You can make these videos ‘private’: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/157177?hl=en-GB

Within the web environment, I cannot see the uploaded videos, it keeps saying ‘upload pending’, what’s happening?

When you upload/make a video within MyInsights, the text will be sent first to the web environment and after that, the video itself. When it says ‘uploading’ within the web environment, the participant did not send the video yet. Sometimes it takes a while, when it concerns very long videos or when you have a bad Internet connection. It is important that the participant keeps the app ‘awake’ while uploading the video, otherwise the uploading will be cancelled, to save the battery of the device.

I want to be both a moderator and a participant within the app

Within the app, you can sign in as either a participant or a moderator (or observer). You cannot sign in as a participant and moderator at once. You can sign in to the web environment as a moderator and on the app as a participant. To be able to sign in as a participant, you could create an extra participant account, possibly using a non existing email address.

Do I need to adjust the segment of a participant manually, or can I do this with the Excel import?

You can do this both manually and using the Excel import. You can see the structure of the Excel import on the Project - Participants - Import page.

What type of projects can I do with MyInsights?

You can conduct qualitative research projects with the app. The advantage of mobile market research is that: - participants are mobile, they can participate whenever, wherever they want - participants can use the app offline as well - participants can upload photos/videos directly - they can participate at moments when they actually form an opinion

Can my client also sign in to the web environment?

Yes, this is possible. The client can be added with the observer role to also see the project that he/she is assigned to. The posts of observers are only visible to moderators/observers, not to participants.

Where can I download the reports/minutes?

You can download the report on the web environment of MyInsights. Go to your project and click on ‘Export’. You can download the report as a CSV, Excel or HTML file. You can also download the photos and videos in a Media ZIP file.

What kind of report can I download?

You can download the data in Excel, CSV or you can open an HTML report. You can also download a Media ZIP file with all the photos and videos (in case the project contains any). Within the Media ZIP file, the photos / videos have this name: ‘topic name_participant name_date_time’.

Researchers can also filter the data to download all entries per topic, participant, segment or type.

Can I test MyInsights for free?

Yes, you can download the app on your Android or iOS device and set up a test project within the web environment. If you use the term ‘test’ (or ‘demo’) in the internal project name, we will make sure that this project doesn’t get invoiced.

Please contact us at info@mobilemarketresearch.com if you want to create your own test project.
